Beta Peptide Foundation Pty Ltd

section heading graphic   Overview

The Beta Peptide Foundation was established in 1997 to develop, manufacture and market skin care products containing Beta Alistine™ as the main active agent. Beta Alistine™ is an exciting and significant discovery by famous CSIRO scientist Dr Robin Holliday, who with his team demonstrated for the first time that Beta Alistine™ restores the youthful appearance of aged human skin cells in tissue culture.

The discovery of Beta Alistine's many protective and restorative properties make it an important agent for improving the quality of skin care. Patents applied for by CSIRO & Peptech Ltd protect these discoveries, which have been licensed to the Beta Peptide Foundation Pty Ltd.

In another significant Australian breakthrough, Scientists have demonstrated that a natural milk protein complex stimulates the production of human skin collagen as well as improving overall skin function. In laboratory tests, topical application of the protein complex - MPF-1 - boosted collagen in aged human skin cells by 500%.

The remarkable properties of MPF-1 were discovered by researchers from the Co-Operative Research Centre for Tissue Growth and Repair in Adelaide, Australia, and patented by TGR BioSciences Pty Ltd. Beta Peptide Foundation Pty Ltd holds the exclusive licensing rights worldwide.

Marketing, product development and sales are managed from the Beta Alistine™ Skin Science head office in Sydney, Australia.

section heading graphic   Competitive Advantages

1. The marriage between science, design and innovation

The incorporation of all of the above factors into a finished product that is both effective and desirable has been key.

We have developed a range of skin care that are of a world-class quality while being simple to use. The products communicate easily to the consumer and sales across all 12 products are consistent and healthy.

2. Our commitment to PR and it’s value in the communication process

Operating originally from a small budget has presented challenges in the way we communicate the brand.
Therefore, we embraced an approach of blanket PR coverage involving women’s magazines and beauty pages, science writers to communicate innovations, current affair programs on prime time television and radio interviews with key Scientists.

All of these activities and their frequency have been successful in keeping us front of the consumers mind and enabled us to grow our retail business in Australia and the UK substantially.

We are strongly aided in this as we are Australian owned and made and support from the media for our affiliations has been significant.

3. Strong relationships with retail partners and distributors.

Due to the success of Beta Alistine Skin Science on both the Australian and UK Markets we are committed to the future and the export potential of our products.

Our collaborations with Australian Science and Innovation allow us a point of difference that is highly prized commercially. We are able to use leading edge technology to create products at the cutting edge of their market segment. Our small organisation means that we are able to act quickly making decisions that directly impact our business, within a minimum time frame.

We create partnerships with distributors in each market and then guide them with international marketing strategies that both maintain brand image and philosophy, while speaking directly to the consumer.

Our future success lies in critical mass and at the company’s full potential we envisage that the brand will be exported to the following markets and negotiations are underway to realise this.

In short, at full potential the Beta Alistine brand name would be recognised as a market leader in the production, marketing and export of scientifically based skin care preparations derived from good Australian Science and Innovation.

Science behind the Company.

How can science help to slow down skin aging and repair age-damaged skin.

Recent discoveries of novel natural products whose main function is to slow down processes of aging and to repair damage, which has occurred, are the scientific basis of the Beta Alistine™ products.

The novel active agents in the company's products are all naturally occurring peptides (peptides are strings of amino acid subunits). They are Beta Alistine™, and milk whey protein fraction MPF-1.

Beta Alistine™ is a most remarkable substance. It is found in large amounts in all mammals (and in many other animals) but only in the longest living cells and tissues viz., muscle, brain neurons and eye lens tissue. In young persons about 5% of the dry weight of muscle and of eye lens are Beta Alistine™, but it is present only in minute amounts in skin tissue.

A few years ago the world famous scientist Dr. Robin Holiday FRS, discovered a way to extend the life of human skin cells with the aid of Beta Alistine™. Subsequently the discovery was patented with Dr. Holliday, Gail MacFarland and Dr. Geoffrey Grigg named as inventors.

Beta Alistine™ has a number of other important properties.

It protects skin against UV-induced cross-linking of collagen.

It protects tissues and cells against non-enzymic glycation and the formation of AGE compounds in cells and in tissues.

AGE's are associated with, and increase the rate of aging in tissues.

It protects against damaging lipid peroxidation.

It blocks the Fenton reaction (the Fenton reaction causes the generation and release of the very reactive and damaging oxygen species hydroxy free radicals).

It metabolises any hydroxy free radicals which are present in cells and tissue.

As a consequence of its several protective chemical activities Beta Alistine™ speeds up the repair of many types of skin blemishes and conditions including some types of contact dermatitis, acne, discoloration of the skin and skin roughness.

Whilst the remarkable properties of Beta Alistine™ and its presence in certain tissues of the human body, seem centred on protecting the latter against damage to these tissues and maintaining them in a youthful and functional form for as long as possible, the properties of the second active peptide agent, MPF-1 caste it as repairer of damage and restorer of function.

MPF-1 is a concentrated protein extract from milk.

The properties of MPF-1 were discovered by a group of Adelaide scientists working on a major government funded project. By carefully extracting lower molecular weight proteins from milk whey, they isolated a fraction which was enriched in a number of important and active tissue growth factors in their native form.

The mixture of these growth factors had potent wound healing properties but more importantly for skin science, the mixture was able to stimulate the synthesis of components of cells which are depleted in aged cells, to help restore functions and structure characteristics of juvenile skin.

MPF-1 contains relatively substantial amounts of the growth factor EGF(Epidermal Growth Factor), PDGF(Platelet-Derived Growth Factor), IGF-2(Insulin-like Growth Factor 2), TGFbeta-1 and TGFbeta-2 and Betacellulin.

TGFbeta-1 and TGFbeta-2 are master growth factors, which play a major role in organising the repair of tissue damage, and also have potent anticancer functions.

EGF, IGF, IGF-2 and Betacellulin stimulate the division of cells of the skin epidermis and dermis to help restore the normal cell density of juvenile skin tissue.

MPF-1 not only enhances skin cellularity, it also stimulates the productions of new collagen in old skin cells.

The skin of a 70-year-old person has only half of that of a 17-year-old.

Moreover, the collagen, which is present in aged skin, is substantially damaged. Since collagen in juvenile skin comprises 80% of the dry weight of the skin and is responsible for much of the youthful skin's physical structure, appearance, feel, function and its ability to store water in the skin tissues, its loss has serious consequences to skin texture, feel and function.

In laboratory trials at the CRC (Cooperate Research Centre) for Tissue Growth and Repair in Adelaide, Australia, MPF-1 increased collagen synthesis in old cells by 500%.
This figure can be compared to the few percentage increase observed with a number of other agents being marketed by several large cosmetic companies.

In addition MPF-1 strongly inhibits the collagen-damaging effects of the skin's metalloproteinases responsible for much of the damage to the skin structure following exposure to strong sunlight.

The production of these damaging enzymes is stimulated by exposure of the skin to strong sunlight.

MPF-1 was found also to repair small skin wounds and lesions very effectively.

Beta Peptide Foundation found that its Rocket Science line delete time suspension plus+product, containing MPF-1, was particularly useful for restoring skin structure and appearance. For best results it should be massaged into the skin followed immediately afterwards by the application of Beta Alistine™ skin science age delete moisturising face cream.
